Diamond Sea

Having packed most of my cds away in preparation for moving out of my flat, I found myself with only two left to spend the week listening to. I’ve spent the past month listening to Jack White and however many bands he may have used on his latest solo record. So I’m left to rediscover the delights of Sonic Youth, Washing Machine and in particular, Diamond Sea.
I must have forgotten how much I love this song, a 20 minute melancholy dirge that gently meanders through glistening chorus and melody before slowly exploding into chaos and confusion, as if you’ve just been pushed head first through a glass door.

You may not like the sound of that, but I do. So here is a short 9 minute version I found on YouTube from 16 years ago…
